ST. LOUIS -- The National Insurance Crime Bureau says that more than a million vehicles were stolen in 2022. That is a 7% increase over 2021 and Missouri and Illinois are among the states seeing the most cars stolen.Illinois saw the number of vehicles stolen jump between 2021 and 2022. The 35% change was the most out of any state. A bill before the California Assembly might change the way police K9 units are used in the state.Assembly Bill 742 does not intend to prevent law enforcement agencies from using dogs, but it would prohibit dogs from being used as crowd control or for capturing a suspect, said the bill's author, Assemblymember Corey Jackson (D-Riverside)."We are seeing when police canines are being used, they are causing more injuries than police batons and Tasers," he said.
