Russia’s ‘General Armageddon’ removed from military leadership, under house arrest: Reports Russia’s General Sergei Surovikin, believed to be an ally of exiled Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, has been removed from his leadership role in Moscow’s war on Ukraine and is under house arrest, according to reports circulating among Russian military bloggers and media. The VChK-OGPU blog, which is considered close to Russia’s security forces, reported late Sunday that Surovikin is now “under a kind of house arrest” where he can’t leave the apartment he is being kept in, but has been permitted visitors, including several of his subordinates.Surovikin, known as “General Armageddon” for his aggressive military strategies in Chechnya and Syria, has not been seen in public since Wagner’s march on Moscow in June, after reports circulated that he had known about Prigozhin’s planned mutiny.“There is no official investigation, but Surovikin spent a long time in limbo answering uncomfortable questions,” VChK-OGPU reported, a...

Hawaii works to identify 99 confirmed dead after Maui wildfires as teams search ruins LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Hawaii officials worked painstakingly to identify the 99 people confirmed killed in wildfires that ravaged Maui and expected to release the first names Tuesday, even as search teams continued to scour neighborhoods reduced to ash for more dead.A week after the deadly blaze that leveled most of historic Lahaina began, many who survived have begun moving into hundreds of hotel rooms set aside for displaced locals.Crews had covered about 25% of the search area, the police chief said Monday. Gov. Josh Green asked for patience and space to do the search properly as authorities became overwhelmed with requests to visit the burn area.“For those people who have walked into Lahaina because they really wanted to see, know that they’re very likely walking on iwi,” he said at a news conference on Maui, using the Hawaiian word for “bones.”Just three bodies have been identified so far and officials will start releasing names on Tuesday, according to Maui...

Rainy Start

Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 05:55:48 GMT

Rainy Start After some solid weather to kick off the workweek, we’ve fallen back into unsettled weather to kick off this Tuesday morning. Rain will be widespread this morning with some heavier storms/localized downpours possible near the south coast. While most of the strong/rotating storms stay offshore, a few may get close to the south coast, especially near the Vineyard and Nantucket, so we’ll keep an eye on that for a nearby waterspout or strong winds. In addition, the heaviest rain will likely be near the south coast too with localized street flooding possible. Highs today get stuck near 70 as clouds and patchy drizzle/spot shower linger this afternoon. Spotty showers linger tomorrow, but it’ll be warmer with highs near 80 inland, 70s coast. Thursday looks nice. Friday features more scattered storms before we clear out for the weekend.

Orioles minor league report: Jordan Westburg believes ‘the sky’s the limit’ for fellow infield prospect Connor Norby Later this month, Jordan Westburg will no longer be a prospect. The Orioles’ young infielder, who made his MLB debut June 26, will graduate from such status on Baseball America’s list once he takes his 130th big league at-bat — he’s 14 away. When he does, Westburg will be the Orioles’ third top-100 prospect to graduate this year, joining Gunnar Henderson and Grayson Rodriguez.Westburg is ranked as Baltimore’s No. 4 prospect in the sport’s top-ranked farm system that’s headlined by its infield stockpile. That list of infielders is about five names long, topped by No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Holliday. The last name on the list, however, is a 23-year-old who is putting up good numbers in his first full season at Triple-A, yet has fallen significantly in prospect rankings.Connor Norby entered the season as one of eight Baltimore prospects inside Baseball America’s top 100. At No. 93 overall, he was ranked ahead of infielders Joey O...

Battenfeld: Dems may give Biden a pass on touching, but Scott Brown didn’t As if Joe Biden needs any more headaches, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown comes out of the woodwork to remind everyone of Biden’s long, controversial history of inappropriately touching women.Brown, in an interview on a local podcast, rehashed the story of how he had to issue a strong warning to then Vice President Biden to keep his hands off Brown’s wife, Gail Huff Brown.“I told him I’d kick the (expletive) out – I told him to stop, so yes,” Brown said of the incident in the former senator’s swearing in ceremony in 2010.“He didn’t act the way I thought he should, and we called him on it and that’s it.”Asked about the comments in the “Burn Barrel” podcast by the Herald, Brown, the former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, texted: “For us, it’s old news. I called him on it in a humorous way. He got the message. We ended up having a cordial, positive working relationship.”But Brown’s retelling of the story has put the spotlight again on President Biden’s long history of touching wo...
