How to lose millions on all-you-can-eat shrimp

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:34:27 GMT

You can't fault Red Lobster for trying. The restaurant chain thought it hit on a great idea to get people through the door -- all-you-can-eat shrimp for just $20.It worked. Lots of people showed up and they ate lots of shrimp. And Red Lobster ended up reporting a quarterly loss of $11 million. For the full year, the company expects a loss of about $20 million.Ouch.Ludovic Regis Henri Garnier, chief financial officer of Red Lobster's parent company, Thai Union Group, told investors on an earnings call that things didn't play out as planned."We wanted to boost our traffic and it didn't work," he said.Garnier said Red Lobster needs to be "much more careful" in setting prices for endless shrimp. What's that mean? It means your meal of never-ending shrimp will no longer cost $20. Now it'll run $25.Which doesn't sound like a profit center, but at least it will likely mean fewer losses.

Millennials are moving to these cities the most, study says On average, about 19.9% of movers moved from state to state, the data showed. California was one of 11 states that had lower immigration rates compared to the national average.Researchers found that the Golden State’s low immigration rate was most likely due to the large amount of people who moved from different locations in the state.Of those who did move ...

Liz Cheney paints a scathing portrait of the Republican Party, condemning her former colleagues and party leaders as “enablers and collaborators,” who after the 2020 election were “willing to violate their oath to the Constitution out of political expediency and loyalty to Donald Trump.”The book, “Oath and Honor,” which was obtained exclusively by CNN ahead of its Dec. 5 release, is an unflinching account of what Cheney calls the GOP’s “cowardice,” and how so many were willing to support former President Donald Trump, who she calls “the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office.”Cheney delivers a particularly devastating takedown of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who she says told her that Trump knew he’d lost the election.
